DragonComic ProcessEarlyRuff

This is the year of the dragon, so I wanted to do a short comic.
The three images are some process on how I start comics these days.

The top image is the text story. When I write I don't worry about anything but just getting the story out of my head.
The middle image shows the thumbnails to the comic. Just to get some visual ideas.
The bottom image are the designs of the characters for the comic.

Next week ruff pencils

Momo and Kumiho+

Some Designs I had fun with.
Momo the rabbit and Kumiho the fox

The top three are the designs with character and personality sketches.

The forth image is the early work up in drawing Momo.

The bottom image are the bad bunny girls, I just like the designs. There is something about doing the more evil characters that's just fun.

Moon Rabbits Painting

Moon Rabbits

So there are various folklore of Rabbits living on the Moon.
In China the Rabbits make an elixir of life in a mortar and pestle.
In Japan and I think Korea; the Rabbits make Mochi, which is pounded glutinous rice.
The whole thing is hard to describe but i liked the imagery.

The Moon Rabbits is another large watercolor painting at 20 inches by 28 inches.

Top is the painting steps
Middle is my finished sketch
Bottom is the final painting

I had an idea about doing the stars by using a toothbrush and various colors of gouache. I was scared to death because after spending so much time painting it at that size, I wondered if I was going to ruin the painting. Luckily the piece turned out better that I had hoped.

2012 Dragon WoodBlock Print

Happy New Year!!!
It is the year of the Dragon.
I'm a little late but here is the postcard I send out to friends and family. I thought it would be good for my first post of 2012.

Making Of New Years Print

(Page 1)
Start with a Drawing
scan it and in Photoshop adjust the size to fit a postcard

(Page 2)
Print the postcard size three times
Plan out the colors using the three prints
In WoodBlock Printing each block is a separate color
1 Blue Block, 1 Red, and 1 Yellow
The thought is making special color like orange green and a violet
To make Green is an overlap print of blue and yellow
Orange is an overlap print of red and yellow
Violet is Blue and red

(Page 3)
Translate the colors to the blocks

Cheers to a New Year!
