Willis Henry Senior and the Chancellor (Meet the Parents)

Willis Henry Senior is the father of our young hero Willis Henry Junior.  After Willis Henry Sr. was abducted by the alien Vekks, looking for the "Key" to the Iron Giant; this event is the catalyst for the journey of our young hero.

The Chancellor of New Ark City, and parent of Quiss and Princess Phen. After the arrival of our young hero Willis Henry and the treacherous action of Vekks; she has her hands full trying to keep the world together.

These are the foundations for our trio of young heroes.

Willis Henry, Princess Phen, and Quiss (The Trio)

The Trio of young heroes: [Top Image] Willis Henry(Center), Princess Phen (Left), Quiss (Right).

These three were the hardest to design.  Mostly because the whole look of just about everything else is made around them.  The looks changed and morphed as all concept does; but most of the changes came in the form of tone of the characters. For example Quiss was a much more straight faces and sad character, but evolved into the beaming, smiling character she is now.

The images below the top image are exploration drawing, including character not to be seen until future comics.  I like creating character in groups because I can more easily contrast one character to another.  In this way their attitudes and look seem to come much easier for me, and story idea seam to flow better.

See ya next week..

Willis Henry Old and New

Willis Henry old and new images.  In the development of Willis Henry as a character; I had to go through a lot of drawings.  Bottom is the oldest drawing from about 2007-2008.  Middle is when I knew I was close to the final designs at that time. 2009.  Top is the redrawing of all of the older designs.  Sometimes I like to redraw some of my older art to see how far I have come.  This was really fun!

Willis Henry Hero Design

Willis Henry Hero Design is one my favorite designs I have done.

Started way back around 2008, when I wanted to do a comic with a very simplified look to match my skills at the time, with a simple shaped head and a sack body, with a youthful look. Sometimes I fall out of love with a design over time or when my skills or taste changes but for this... I love the Design still.

Willis Henry "Hello and Happy New Year"

Happy New Year!
New Year and new promise and projects.

I think I have left Willis Henry unfinished for long enough. So, here is what I'm thinking.

Willis Henry Book 01 has about 300 pages to finish, and I would like it done by September 2027.  I should never have left him alone for so long in the first place... but such is life.

Anyway, Willis Henry will be seen a lot on the blog.  The early breakdown so far is.

Willis Henry Book 01 chapter 03 is 97 pages; and I would like it done just before July 2026.

Willis Henry Book 01 chapter 04 is 106 pages; and I would like that chapter done by December 2026.

Willis Henry Book 01 chapter 05 (Final) is between 80-90 pages; and I would like that chapter done by September 2027.

So, that is my intentions, and you will see Willis Henry around here; to keep me on track and moving Forward!

Keep Shining,

Trey

Lore of the Silver Hand: Ink Season (All Ink Tools) part 2

For the Final Testing of the Tools, we throw in everything in terms of techniques.  We have Brush work for the hair, CrowQuill and G-Nibs for the body.  Details with Pens, Micron and Comics. Ink wash for values. Then finish it off with pens, Micron and Comics, for details and hatching and crosshatching.

Top: Tight Pencils

Bottom: Lore Inks

What Did I Learn:  I think I feel a lot more confident with the process, steps, and tools. Now I think is just a numbers game with doing a lot more to internalize what I learned.

Lore of the Silver Hand: Ink Season (all Tech)

Testing our Inking Tools; today is the start of using all the tools in the toolbox.  Brush used for the hair, CrowQuill and G-Nibs for body. Details with Micron and Copic Pens. Ink wash for values.

Top: Tight Pencils

Bottom: Lore Ink

What Did I Learn: Starting to get into a groove with the tools.  Building off of the past test, I think I'm getting what I do, and my system for inking (for now).

On to the Next: All Technique Test 2

Lore of the Silver Hand: Ink Season (CrowQuill and G-Nibs, and Pen)

We continue with the testing of the tools. So today is working with CrowQuill and G-Nibs, and Micron/Copic Pens for detailing and hatching values.

Top: Lore Ink

Bottom: Tight Pencil Base

What Did I Learn: I like using Nibs for those Live Lines (mostly for the outlines and locking in the character), while for details Pens get a lot of use.  Also, practicing Hatching was more fun than I thought.

On to the Next: will be CrowQuill and G-Nibs, Ink Wash, and Pen.

Lore of the Silver Hand: Ink Season (Only Pens)

So this week I tried to ink only with Micron and Copic Pens.

Top: Original try using multiple techniques.

Middle: Pens Only (Test)

Bottom: Tight Pencil Base

What Did I Learn: I can ink only with pens, and it doesn't look to bad. The dark pants was done with hatching and crosshatching to get that dark. Ultimately, I like how this turned out and I learned I could do with just pens.  Cool

On to the Next: which will be a combo of Nib Pens, Microns and Copics.

Lore of the Silver Hand: Inking Season (Start)

Today is the start of Inking Season what seems as an annual tradition, where I try to learn how to ink better and learn new skills.  Again, I'm using Lore of the Silver Hand (My Conan, wandering warrior type character); Lore is the focus to learn from.

So I done four images of Lore to test different techniques.

Top: Forth week: All Ink techniques (Brushes, Nibs, Pens, Ink washes)

Middle top: Third week: All ink techniques trial (Brushes, Nibs, Pens, Ink washes)

Middle bottom: will be Second week:  only Pen Nibs: Crow Quill and G Pen with spot blacks

Bottom:  will be Next week: and only using Micron and Copic Pens

So that's the plan... Let's Go

Watercolor Beautiful Beast Kiss (part 3 of 3)

 Watercolor Paintings

So, these are examples of larger works done from smaller watercolor sketches.  With the larger versions I go more into depth with colors and the build up and work in 3 Phases; to push the darks and make the color pop just a bit more. I love working in watercolor so these are always fun to make.
